AllTrails - App & Logo Redesign
ORIGINAL APP & LOGOTYPE
The original app was a bit clunky due to the amount of information not being well distributed. The visual identity was also rough and needed some polish.
As hiking is an outdoors activity, nature colors were chosen as the color palette.
A visual identity redesign was necessary to lead the way for the app redesign.
The logo redesign has different green tones as you'd see in trail vegetation.
APP REDESIGN - LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The app redesign improves the layout of the information it already had, making it clean and easier for the user to find the data needed.
HIGH FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The redesign has some new features, such as voting on other users comments, so the most helpful ones stay on top.
Another new feature is the photo rating, a way to let the app users self-regulate content and improve overall visual quality.
I've tested both low and high fidelity prototypes with AllTrails users. The conclusion was that if the company were to adopt this design for their app, it would be a significant improvement because the information the user is looking for is easier to find; it's visually more compelling and clean; and the users would be able to vote not only on the trails, but also the photos, and they consider this an essential feature as 80% of them check the pictures before choosing a trail.
